Welcome
The Adventist Publishing Network (APN) exists to help Seventh-day
Adventist Christians get ahead in the publishing fields of print,
Internet, and multimedia. The author, Michael Prewitt, has been
working in publishing since 1992 and is known among his peers as
someone who understands both the technical and creative aspects
of publishing.
Adventist publishing ministries have their special limitations.
They are usually conservative about spending money on typefaces
and graphics and specialty printing (such as printing with hexachrome
inks, embossing, or putting holograms on things). They generally
have a very basic desktop publishing software collection, and often
do all their work in-house.
While it is interesting to read about how Corporation X, with
its multimillion-dollar budget, is creating publishing solutions
for its clients, I have found it much more meaningful to learn
how others with similar resources are succeeding. Given the modest
budgets of most SDA publishing ministries, the gap between our
resources and those of the typical agency featured in publishing
magazines can be wide indeed. We need solutions that are practical
for us.
Adventists deserve extra attention. As a freelance designer,
I give reduced rates to Adventist clients with ministry-related
projects. I offer these discounts because I believe in what these
clients are doing. We are in this together. And it is in that spirit
that I believe Adventists in the publishing field deserve a top-notch
publishing website. God wants us to be out in front, organized,
efficient, and practical not dragging along behind.
If you are an Adventist publisher, designer, or content creator,
please join us. I believe you will find the Adventist Publishing
Network to be a valuable resource.
